Wedding Photographer in Lüneburg: My Favourite Locations

Lüneburg is one of the most beautiful wedding towns in northern Germany, admittedly from the perspective of a photographer who has worked here for years. The old town is compact, the distances are short, and in every direction a different world begins: the heath to the south-west, Hamburg to the north-west, the Elbe to the north. Here are seven places I especially love to photograph.

1. Lüneburg Town Hall & Old Town

The town hall, with its brick Gothic architecture, is not only a classic registry-office venue but also a wonderful backdrop. The little lanes around it, Am Sande, the market square, the Wasserstraße, make for relaxed reportage images that work entirely without any forced posing.

What I particularly love: the quality of light in the late afternoon, when the brick walls reflect it warmly.

2. The Wasserviertel & the Old Crane

The Wasserviertel, with the Old Crane, the Brausebrücke and the houses right on the Ilmenau, has been my secret favourite for years. It feels almost like a film set, and is surprisingly quiet early in the morning. A very good choice for getting-ready pictures or the first couple shoot after the ceremony.

3. Lüneburg Kurpark

Generous paths, old trees, a pavilion. The Kurpark is ideal for quiet family and couple shots. It gets busy at the height of summer, so I like to schedule sessions in the calm morning or evening hours.

4. Lüneburg Heath, Wilsede & Undeloh

If you want a wedding in the heath, Wilsede and Undeloh are two classics. In August/September, when the heather blooms, the images are incredible, pink-violet expanses stretching to the horizon. My tip: the golden hour, just before sunset, with the bouquet and barefoot through the grass.

5. The Elbe Marshes: A Wedding by the Water

North of Lüneburg, along the Elbe, several wedding venues with a view of the water are dotted across the marshes. If a more rustic, scenic setting appeals to you, this is a strong alternative to the old town.

6. Registry Office + Hamburg Connection

Many of my couples live in Hamburg but marry in Lüneburg, or the other way round. By car the two cities are just under an hour apart, which makes double locations possible: the registry office in Hamburg, a free ceremony by the water in Lower Saxony, the celebration in the Elbe marshes. As your photographer I’m there all day, without any stress.

7. Your Garden / Home

It sounds unspectacular, but it is often the most beautiful: your own four walls. When I spend the first hours of the day there with you, the most intimate pictures emerge. That holds for getting ready just as much as for an after-wedding the next morning, with coffee and sunlight in the bedroom.

My Style

Book me for your wedding and you won’t get run-of-the-mill wedding photography, feedback couples reflect back to me again and again. I work documentary-style, sometimes editorially quiet, but rarely “posed”. Ceremony, drinks reception, dance floor, I’m there, but so discreetly that you forget me.

Your venue! If you suggest a special place, I drive there beforehand, look at the light and plan with you. That’s part of the preparation and comes at no extra charge.
